Metkinen is experienced in strain development "from zero". In most cases natural strains (isolates) are obtained from reliable microorganism collection as ATCC or DSM. These strains have very basic natural productivity. As it was in case of Lovastatin strain of Aspergillus terreus research started at 10 mg per litre productivity. At present Metkinen Oy Laboratory possesses competitive microorganisms for Lovastatin, Compactin or Pravastatin

• Customer strain improvement: provided for industrial or semi-industrial level strains those are in Customer possession. If Customer strain and/or product have unsatisfactory technology parameters as productivity, media composition, cultivation conditions, yield, purity, etc., Metkinen Oy provides productivity increase, media and cultivation condition efficiency improvement and product recovery technology optimisation.
